Another tip for bands ...

And this one is pretty simple, although it's related to the one I put up here about a year ago: photos from MySpace are not high resolution enough for newspapers and/or magazines to print, generally. The biggest favor you can do yourself as a band-- with regard to getting press-- is have a decent picture of yourselves taken and have it easily available online and at least 1800 x 1200 pixels. It's really a no-brainer, because an article with a banging picture is way way better than one with an ad hoc solution.

do musicians read this? i mean other than you, jesse. if you do, here's the best thing you can do for your career as it relates to getting good press that isn't being a good band: have a hi-res photo of your band up on your band's page clearly labeled under a heading like press materials or press or something. if i'm writing hot tickets (like i am now) and there are two bands and one has a big-ass photo of themselves on their website that i can download and print, they're gonna get the big photo over the other band with no photo. so hi-res means 300 dpi, at least 6" x 9". i'm just saying.
