if there's a choice between chance and flight ...

everybody go get the new pornographers new album twin cinema. totally f'ing amazing. and i'm sorry to use harsh letters, but there it is: it's f'ing amazing. when i first got it, i listened through it once and wasn't blown away, but sometimes all it takes with a disc that's a little challenging is that one track to let you in. and that track is 'these are the fables.' with neko case just absolutely ruling the track (especially the bridge, which has one of the prettiest melodies i've heard recently), the tune is amazing and wonderful and surprises you big time 2/3 of the way through with some absolutely great drumming. really, i think their drummer, kurt dahle, is the unsung hero of this band. his playing on single 'use it' and dan bejar's 'the bleeding heart show' are equally stunning. seriously, great drums can elevate an album from merely good to killer. cf. sunny day real estate's pink LP.
