doomtree blowout

congrats, doomtree, on really packing 'em in at the varsity. boo to the varsity for not being able to get people in the damned door in a timely fashion. i got there at 9:45 p.m. (doors were at 9:30 p.m.) and then waited for 45 minutes, came near to getting frostbite in my toes, and eventually abandoned the line when i was still some thirty people away from the entrance. seriously, folks, figure this the hell out. this isn't southern california and it's simply inexcusable to leave people out in the cold for that long.

hope the show went well.

This brings up a question I've been asking a lot lately. When should bands tell people to come to their shows? I think it's bad etiquitte to tell people only when your band plays--especially if you know or like the other bands. Besides, too many times people come after your band is done playing and they're bummed because they assume things start later than the stated time. Do you lie and say music starts at 9:00 when it starts at 10:00?

What is a band to do?

it's a recurring problem. i'm always super on time for shows, so if someone tells me they're playing at 10 pm, i get there at 9:50 pm. then, when it turns out they go on at 11 pm, that kind of blows. but on the other hand, i know that most people aren't this way, and will come late, so i usually tell them (when i'm playing) to come earlier than we will be playing. there's no good way around it. what i usually end up telling people is when doors are, and then when i estimate we'll play, minus one half hour.
