It just wouldn't be classic Pitchfork unless they completely neglected to mention why Shellac was playing. According to the article they just set up and played out of the blue. For a website that started in the TC they sure seem to be clueless.
totally agree. it was really weird how they failed to mention the STNNNG or signal to trust show, as if people would randomly be hanging out in the entry at noon on a saturday and just luck into seeing a shellac show.
and come one now: there are plenty of websites started in the twin cities that are clueless.
I'm sure the people who attended the Lunch Show would be quick to agree with you, Andrea.
I got over the fact that the Pulse thought it to be responsible journalism to print a rumor surrounding the show once Steve offered me an apology, stating that his intentions were not to undermine what our bands were trying to put together. Unfortunately, what we all now know is that his intentions were to have bragging rights when the rest of the media covered it after the fact. It spits directly in the face of the apology we were given, and I guess if calling him on it makes us unfriendly, then so be it. Given the choice, I'd take integrity over kindness anyway.
i had wanted to just stay out of this, but when attacks get personal towards myself and the pulse, i feel like i've got to say something.
let's all just take a breath, hey? this isn't valerie plame being outed as a cia operative: it's rock and roll, so can we calm down a bit?
i think anyone who knows me will tell you that i'm not out there to ruin anyone's day for personal gain. i was trying to help you out by publishing a hot ticket, and when i heard the rumor about shellac, i thought i'd include it, specifically noting that it was just a rumor, to add a little spice and interest to the item.
when you got upset, i felt bad, because i had the impression that my info had been bad and that shellac was not playing, and what i'm really interested in having a healthy and happy local music scene and i just want everyone to get along.
when i then found out that shellac actually had played, i just thought it kind of amusing, in light of all the drama that had gone on, not to mention cool. plus, since pitchfork hadn't mentioned why shellac would be playing at the entry in the afternoon, i thought it might be nice to draw some attention to the reason they were there, namely, the lunch show and to also, without getting all high and mighty about it, just point out that the rumor i had heard was actually correct.
i had thought that was going to be it, but then mr. skinny had to make a personal attack against the pulse. if nobody reads the pulse, why are you so pissed off? who cares, right? yeah, we published it on the wrong day. my bad. but you seem ripped that it was published in the first place and apparently don't think ink in the pulse is worth anything.
you can choose to believe it or not, but i have great respect for anyone who's out there making music and putting together shows. i think it's flat-out awesome that you got shellac to play the lunch show.
if you want to belittle me and the publication i work for, fine. i'm not going to play that game. can we just call it at this point and put away the sharp instruments?

this one started in the tc, for instance. ;)
True, but unlike Pitchfork, Pulse can name five active Minneapolis bands that aren't Tapes and Tapes or Paul Westerberg.
paul who?
Lol. Touche good sir.
good for you the pulse and you, Steve!
thank god no one really reads the pulse or the Shellac surprise might have been ruined for everyone.
thanks for putting the wrong date for the show though, that might have thrown some people off.
