heiruspecs not family friendly?
just got an e-mail from vickie gillmer, heiruspecs manager, informing me (and a large number of other people, i assume) that heiruspecs has been kicked off the bill at an upcoming benefit at the mall of america for not being "family friendly." what? sure, they swear, but so do a lot of families, and they've always been totally on-point about not swearing in their shows when they've been asked to. and how could the mall of america not know what they were getting when they signed them up to play in the first place? this is hip-hop after all and when was the last time you heard family friendly rap (defining family friendly as MOA is) that was any good? pretty much never.
maybe young mc is still available, MOA. i'm pretty sure he's not too busy these days.

Perhaps this is an (over)reaction to the riot at Brookdale Center last weekend?
interesting theory. i think over-reaction is the operative word here, if this is in response to that. firstly, i'm willing to bet that a show called jingle jam put on by the local radio disney channel with B5 is a, pardon my un-family friendly language, shit-ton more family friendly than heiruspecs. second of all, heiruspecs are great, but they're not going to cause a riot. unless they've picked up a lot more teenage girl fans on their recent tour. those tweeners are worse than skate-punks. like powder kegs waiting to go off.
So true. I happened to be on my way to the Marshall Fields at that mall when the riot broke out, the streets were flooded with what looked to be a roving group of ravid pre-teens, still yelling and foaming at the mouth about getting kicked out of the concert. Terrifying. I'm not sure if that correlates to the MOA in any way, either way it's a load of hooey because Heiruspecs promote way better values than most mainstream hip hop groups. Plus they're pretty rad and deserve attention so it's a shame.
So I'm seeing posters, a tee shirt, maybe an album cover with "banned from mall of america" on it. and then twinkie jiggles on nightline explaining to ted koppel how family friendly they really are and how fascist friendly MOA is. followed by felix running for the us senate on an anti-MOW platform.
it's kind of a toss-up, i think. because i think it's one of those gigs you take that impress a certain part of the media, and that the other part doesn't really care. you know, like, i'm not going to hold it against heiru if they play at disneyworld, but some people (read: more mainstream pubs) might be really psyched about that. and while my bro has a point about not having to deal with the mall on the busiest shopping day of the year, there would be a ton of people there. and yes, funny that they're retaining tre hardson. i'm not sure about his new stuff, but bizarre ride ii has some seriously raunchy and not family-friendly stuff on it.
